Sometimes we find ourselves stuck in a rut. We want to grow more in our relationship with God, but we just feel stuck. Maybe you find yourself regularly ignoring your Bible reading, or having weeks go by without a single prayer. Wherever you are on your spiritual journey, there are practical steps you can take today to strengthen your relationship with God. Ready? Let’s go!
Set a prayer reminder. I set reminders all the time to talk to people. If I need to call my mom or a friend but I’ve been busy, I set a reminder on my phone. Needing an extra reminder—even for prayer—doesn’t mean you’re failing at your faith.
Start a Bible Plan—with someone else. I love reading in the Bible App, but it’s even better when you’re doing it with a friend or family member to keep you accountable. Would you like a few suggestions? Maybe you need to get your enthusiasm back. Maybe you’ve forgotten where your true strength comes from. Maybe you just need to go take a minute to sift through all the Bible Plans and let one jump out at you both. Hearing God through His Word every day is a vital step to a strong relationship with Him.
Celebrate what God is doing. One of my biggest regrets is not being intentional about celebrating what God has done in my life. The best way to do this regularly is to write it in a journal so you can come back to it when you need encouragement. Proverbs 11:27 NLT says, If you search for good, you will find favor … Look for the good things God has been doing in your life, and write them down!
Be vulnerable. All of these have been pretty do-able so far, right? Here’s the one that’s sure to challenge you. If you want to strengthen your relationship with God, you need to be vulnerable—not just with Him but with other believers as well. Where are you struggling with sin? What’s that fear that keeps you up at night? Bring it to light. Tell a friend in your Tribe, and confess it to God in prayer.
Which step do you need to focus on today? Don’t ignore it. There’s really nothing more important and valuable than your relationship with God.
